Son of the Barrio tm

Fairhaven Press is proud to team up with Iron Mountain Pictures and Corporativo 9 Films to sponsor the Son of the Barrio Project.

The Son of the Barrio Project is actually several different projects in one that aim to bring attention to the plight of Latino workers in the United States. Fairhaven Press and Iron Mountain Pictures are currently working on the follow projects.

1. A feature film on the life of San Antonio Labor Rights Activist Jaime Martinez. Angelica Maria and Brandy Lopez have committed to the project and representatives from Televisa are currently in discussions for  first rights to air this film throughout the United States. Several prominent names in the film and television industry are competing for the rights to finish production. Production should begin in San Antonio, Texas and Mexico City, Mexico in the Winter of 2015/ 2016.

This film will have great value for the entire San Antonio community. San Antonio city officials, Texas Congressman Lloyd Doggett, and many others have endorsed these projects as a way to revitalize the entire San Antonio economy and bring a new industry to the Alamo city. We are currently working with other film producers and supporting industries to create an entire film and television industry in San Antonio.

2. Fairhaven Press will be producing a series of books throughout  2016 and beyond featuring not only Jaime Martinez, but also additional titles on the struggles of Latino migrants who have fought for basic human rights in the US workplace over the generations. These will be authored primarily by Joe Michael Gonzales, a doctoral candidate and San Antonio entrepreneur.

3.  In addition to the book and film, Fairhaven Press would like to start gathering stories for use in a website that will support both projects. This website will feature success stories and helpful resources for those currently trying to rise out of the barrio.

This is where we need your help however.

There are two ways to help:

1. Share your story and help us share our story. If you want to receive email updates, sign up in the box to the right. If you have your own story that you would like to add to the books or website, send us a note as well.

2. We are also in need of people to help contribute to the project. We have a variety of funding sources, but everything counts. Contributing to this project will help support independent film making. It will also help small entrepreneurs create a new economy for their community.

Thank you for taking the time to visit our site today and learning more about our project.
